From the Nile's source to the ocean's depth, we are shaping a sustainable, regenerative, and resilient future.
Ceanapse is an international NGO headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, dedicated to empowering coastal and lacustrine communities through sustainable blue economy solutions. We are a community-based organization where members, both individually and collectively, recognize their vital role in promoting regenerative blue economy for local community resilience.
Since our foundation, we have worked to bridge the gap between local coastal realities and shaping global policy through research, technology, and climate justice. Our members consider themselves co-workers with the local communities, united by shared values and a commitment to lasting change.
"Thriving coastal communities living in harmony with creation (restoring oceans, transforming livelihoods, and advancing a regenerative blue economy for generations to come)."
"To empower coastal communities through sustainable blue economy solutions, faith based environmental stewardship, and inclusive leadership, building resilience, dignity, and opportunity in the face of climate change."
Our members uphold the following values and guiding principles, which define our identity and guide our pursuit of our mission and vision:
We strive to foster a community centered outreach as the foundation for shaping members' identity, values, character, and climate.
We reaffirm community resilience and regenerative blue economy as foundational roles in climate change mitigation.
We foster a blue economy environment that engages and positively impacts local communities while contributing to global solutions.
We strive to institutionalize a culture that fosters blue community impact for local community resilience.
The vision for Ceanapse emerges from observations of climate change threatening Lake Victoria's shorelines and the struggles of fishing communities, particularly women engaged in small scale fishing, fish trading, and value addition.
Post election violence impacts accelerate the need for community support. Ceanapse officially establishes itself with a mission to address blue economy challenges and community resilience.
Expanded operations to multiple sites including Lake Victoria shorelines, Tom Mboya Labour College, Pate Island in Lamu, and Diani Chale. Launched comprehensive programs in environmental education, safety at sea training, and blue campaigns.
